Sex Shops are for Adults

Sex Shops in Massachusetts Desiree's Desires, Inc.Sex shops are few and far between in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We are located in the suburbs because we know people have sex in small towns at the same rate as folks in the big city. We started this blog as a way to communicate with our customers. People interested in learning more about sex deserve a platform to gain access to sexual health and wellness information. Plus, we genuinely enjoy spreading the love. It is our hope people feel comfortable walking through our doors even if they have never been in sex shops before.

Adults have the right to walk into sex shops. The towns in Massachusetts may throw us in industrial zones or tell us we need to be so many feet away from a school, church, etc., but adults can walk into sex shops freely. It’s America, after all. In turn, sex shops have the responsibility of checking your government issued ID to make sure you’re 18 or over.  That’s our policy, and as far as we know it’s the policy at all the other sex shops too. Please, don’t be difficult or offended when we ask you for your license. We have no interest in going to prison for 10-20 for disseminating indecent material to minors, so have those ID ready when you walk in!

For the awesome customers we already have that never give us a problem about ID, THANK YOU! You’re the majority, but let me just rant a little about the others. You’d be surprised the reaction we get from young adults and older adults alike when we ask them for ID. The young ones have an attitude like they look ancient and don’t need to be asked. The middle aged people look at us annoyed and say, “really,” as if they are entitled to walk in anywhere regardless of clearly posted policy on the door. The older ladies always feel flattered, and are usually cute about it. It’s particularly amusing when the 17 year old holds up his hands and says, “I confess. I can’t be in here. I’m 17.” I’m not going to arrest you, kid. I’m just going to ask you to step outside and wait for your friends in the car.

You see, in this country, there is still a stigma with sex. Sex shops are always under fire, especially in small suburban towns. In turn, our business isn’t run like a bar, for example. We won’t get shut down for a day for serving alcohol to a minor; instead we could go to jail. Seriously!!!! So, the next time you visit our adult retail boutique, please be kind and just show us your ID when we ask. It’s not that big of a deal. It protects us and ensures all our customers are of age. If you’re an adult you have the right to visit sex shops, so please act like an adult when we ask you for your ID. We’re just asking for some compassion, please.
