It’s harder than you think to work at a sex store.

Are we hiring? The answer is no. Hiring in the adult sex toy industry is a bit more complicated than hiring at a regular retail store. We are not selling home goods or clothes. We are selling personal care products to increase sexual health, wellness, and orgasmic pleasure. So, sorry, but we can’t go hiring anyone and everyone. Plus, we take pride in offering personal one-on-one consultation with any customer who needs our help. We truly enjoy talking with people. As a small family business, this is our job 24/7, so we actually don’t have interest in hiring outside help at this time.

Responsibility to our customers

We have many products to choose from, and it’s our responsibility to know how each and every product works. If you visit our boutique for a specific item, I want you to go home with exactly what you are looking for. We are in the business of pleasure. There’s nothing less pleasurable than grabbing your new sex toy and not have it work as you intended it to. We want to make sure we ask you all the right questions to ensure your happiness. That’s our brand, and we’re committed to customer service. That’s why we continue our sex ed training all the time.

You think you’re up to speed and should be hired

I understand many people think they know everything about sex toys. People who have every toy under the sun often think it’s easy to do what we do. After all, it’s just sex. Well, I don’t intend to offend anyone or make you not want to visit our boutique, but there is more to it than being an active user of sex toys. You see, what you think is a great toy, your friend may hate. It doesn’t matter what you like or think you know; it’s our job as sex toy saleswomen to suggest toys based on what our customers are looking for.

Topics to consider before asking a sex toy store if they are hiring

• Attend a sexual health seminar.
• Attend an adult novelty show.
• Learn about sex toy materials.
• Learn about sex toy pleasure purposes and what toys fit what needs.
• Lubrication is often essential, but not all lubes are equal.

The list goes on and on. We do have access to over 50,000 sex toy products. Probably more than that by now. All potential hires would have to have this basic knowledge to get the job.
