Holidays are always good for business, but if you sell sexy stuff for a living, Valentine’s Day is the busiest time of year. If you are in the retail business you know there are certain “trends” in the business:
- August is the slowest month of the year;
- Tuesday is the slowest day of the week; and
- From the day after Thanksgiving until the 24th of December, retail sales are always the highest.
Like so many different expectations in retail, our adult boutique seems to always buck the trends. Whether its making sure we are open in the middle of snow storms and hurricanes or doing really well on Tuesdays, the sex toy business is a bit of an anomaly. We never seem to follow all the standard retail trends.
Valentine’s is so special to us
People have sex every day of the year all over the globe. So, for us, Valentine’s Day sets the tone for how well we are going to do for the entire year. Unlike counting on the December holidays to close out the year strong, we want to start off the year on a high note. This is the tine of year when new products launch and they launch big. Even though we bring in new items every week, Valentine’s is when companies in our industry plan new releases, including the latest technology and product designs.
