They call it the overshare app, and I can tell why. Have you ever kept a little black book of your sexual conquests? Well, if you have, things just went digital. Now you can access and keep a log straight from your phone with the Bootylog App. This app lets you create a profile, share what contraception you use (after all bedsider.org – the creator of this app – is dedicated to promoting birth control), list your partner, rate your experience, and then give all the juicy details. This is a social networking app, so of course others can read your “diary”.
I’m really not so sure if I like this. I mean, I am all for open communication about sex and sexual health. I respect the work Planned Parenthood and others do to promote sexual health and well-being, but there are some things that should remain private, don’t you think? Don’t get me wrong, I understand what Bedsider.org is trying to do, and the fact they are engaging in what young people crave – social media – is a very smart idea. I’m not clueless about social media and the need for people to post pictures, tell details of their moods, feelings, and work atmospheres, etc., but giving the full details of your sexual exploits on a public site, is this OK? Remember, there are consequences when you put all your private information in a public forum.
