I spend my days scouting for new sexual enhancement products for my boutique. That’s what I do, sell sex toys. My goal is to bring in new, innovative, and higher quality items, so we follow the top luxury brands and what they’re coming up with next. I make my decisions based on style, look, feel, and of course material-type. We want our female and male customers to use body-safe toys, and have an assortment of styles to choose from. That said, I must admit, I rarely think about how the product is made or more importantly what computer chips and devises are inside that little ball of vibration power.
Thanks to the twitter universe, I feel upon an article on motherboard talking about the technical aspect of sex toy devises, mainly their “user interfaces” (UIs). Clearly a new term for me! Haha.
Choosing a product that is not only body-safe, has great vibration patterns, and looks and feels nice is an obvious decision. However, UI controls are just as important. I’m trained to know how to turn a sex toy on and off, but I’ve never really thought the general public may be fearful of techie looking sex toys. To me, a quality sex toy has easy to use buttons and controls, but there is a reason they come box ready that way. Product development for company’s, like LELO, is key. They ask their product testers to quality control the UI experience. Not only do they ask their testers if the product gives them a pleasurable experience (that is the end game after all), but are the buttons in the right place? Such a key to success for a new and/or old sex toy company. The UI experience is constantly in development, and, in turn, users of sex toys benefit greatly. We want to enjoy our sexual experience, not worry about how to turn the damn thing on or off. That’s just a mood killer top brands are trying to avoid!
Learn more about the technical aspects of product development for sex toys by reading Jacqui Cheng’s article. It was fascinating.
