Sex Toy Cleaner: why it’s a good idea
aThere are a growing number of studies that show bacteria and potential STI transmission associated with sex toys. Many of the classic sex toys are made of non-porous rubber material that harbor a large number of bacteria. Using sex toy cleaner and allowing these types of toys to air dry before safe storage is the best way to keep them clean. However, studies suggest bacteria and HPV virus can still be held in the deep crevasses of non-porous sex toys. Sex toy cleaners are specifically formulated to be safe and compatible with all types of sex toy materials, but they offer more specific formulas to properly clean your sex toys ridding them of harmful bacteria.
What can you do to help reduce your risks?
- Wash your sex toys regularly before and after each use with sex toy cleaner.
- Use sex toys that are non-porous, such as silicone, glass, and ABS plastic.
- Try avoiding sex toys made of rubber or thermoplastic elastomers (TPR), especially if they are for internal use.
- Store your sex toys in a dry cool place (not in the bathroom).
We recommend a spray or foam sex toy cleaner safe for all sex toy materials. What are your favorite sex toy cleaners?
