Celebrating 5 Years of Pleasure!
We are so very happy to be celebrating 5 years in business on August 4, 2015. It feels like yesterday that we opened our doors to our friends and family and the public. We’ve made freshman mistakes, like any first time business owners, but we have never compromised our promise to our customers: provide high quality sexual enhancements at a reasonable price, maintain a comfortable open environment, and always answer the tough questions. We are so proud to be celebrating 5 years of pleasure with you. We are looking forward to our next 5 years (and more)!
History of Desiree’s Desires, Inc.
- Summer 2008: We quit our jobs. Doreen said goodbye to all the special education kids she taught over the years and all the school politics that went with it. Desiree had already left the legal world and was ready for a new challenge.
- Fall 2008 – Winter 2009: We spent countless hours calling distributors, trying to get a budget together, and writing a business plan. We also drove hundreds (if not thousands) of miles looking for locations after visiting about 24 Town Halls to get zoning maps and bylaws.
- Spring 2009 – Spring 2010: Not having much luck finding a permanent location, we decided to take a small amount of start-up money and start our business as a home party company. We incorporated by December 2009, and our little business venture started to grow. We are super thankful to our friends and family who hosted parties initially for us. That turned into a great way to get to know people, make connections, and start learning about products.
- January 2010: We attend our very first AVN/ANE convention in fabulous Las Vegas. A week out there with porn stars, adult novelty manufacturers, distributors, and three days of sex education and business seminars was our very first taste of the industry as insiders. What a ride that was – literally. There was, after all, a mechanical penis to ride!! Yee-haw!
- March 2010 – May 2010: We meet a crazy man named Gary who was very happy to rent us a space in his former motorcycle showroom/repair shop in Upton. He has been providing us laughs for 5 years now, but when we first met him the jury was definitely still out. He takes his time “readying” the place, we yell at him, and finally he gets us moved into the building in May. Needless to say, something goes wrong, we yell at Gary, and he always helps us out. It turned out, he’s a pretty good guy. 🙂
- May 2010 – August 1, 2010: We have about 1,500 square feet of space and had to set this boutique up. Creating a sexy yet comfortable environment was our priority. My grandfather’s good friend came out of retirement to help us out. Woody, 77 at the time, still knew his stuff. What a carpenter! He was so quick to get up all the racks, built our lingerie area, and created our register space. He is officially retired now, but we’ll always appreciate that he did one last job for us. After Woody left, we had to stock the shelves and decorate the boutique. We sometimes look at old pictures and can’t believe what it looked like in the beginning. Again, it’s all about learning.
- August 4, 2010 – Present: We are open for business!!! Celebrating 5 years in Upton. We have refined our inventory, assisted customers in choosing the best pleasure products for them, and have accumulated all the stories for a lifetime!!
