In Memory of George

George Aselbekian and Desiree AselbekianMy mother and I want to thank all of our customers for the kind words of condolences we have received this past week regarding the passing of Doreen’s father and my grandfather, George Aselbekian. It was a difficult week resulting in us closing the store for a couple of days. We thank our customers for your kindness and understanding. As we grieve, it’s nice that we get to come to work together everyday. We have shared thoughts and memories of Gramp with each other, as we prepared photographs for the wake, and I know we will continue to remember him in so many ways.

My grandfather, George, was a great man. He was kind, caring, generous, and compassionate. He taught us that you do not have to be a greedy or nasty person to have a successful business. He ran a successful family business with my grandmother for nearly 45 years. He was a master welder and machinist and manufactured tons of cool stuff including the Papa Gino’s pizza wheels and crane/buckets for sewage draining systems. My mom worked for him when he needed extra hands, and I used to ride shot-gun with my grandmother making deliveries when I wasn’t in school.

He was the son of Armenian Genocide survivors, and he starting working on the dairy farm and riding tractors when he was 4 years old. He instilled a strong work-ethic in my mother and me, and he also taught us that we could do anything we put our minds to. When we told him we were opening this business, he had only a positive reaction. As long as we were happy, he didn’t care what we did. He enlisted his friends to help us with carpentry, electrical, and set-up of the store. He was always positive and just once a year during tax time asked us if we were making any money. Haha.

While we don’t make things like Gramp did, we are proud of our family business and our attitude about caring for customers. He was nice to everyone. We try to have the same outlook because at the end of the day, we depend on our customers for continued business and recommendations. We thank you all for sticking with us during this difficult time, and appreciate your understanding as to why we closed the last week. Thank you.

We will be back to regular schedule this week opening Tuesday 11-5 and Wednesday thru Saturday 11-8. We are closed on Sunday and Monday.
