Make your Summer Sizzle
Research suggests people living in cooler northern climates tend to increase their sexual activity in summertime evidenced by peak birth rates occurring in the spring (9 months later). Whether you’re looking to increase the size of your family or just looking to increase your pleasure, summertime is the perfect time to try something new. Here, we have four reasons why summertime in the north is the best time for sex! Enjoy the heat, the sun, and the pleasure.
Summertime Sex:
- SUNLIGHT MAKES YOU HOT!: Vitamin D is nature’s remedy for many things. In the summertime, it increases chemicals and boost the libido. “Exposure to sunlight triggers the body to produce mood-boosting dopamine and serotonin, plus a hormone called MSH—all of which spur your libido,” says Michael F. Holick, Ph.D., M.D., author of The Vitamin D Solution.
- SPONTANEOUS SEX: a new setting, a new toy, or a surprise night alone always helps to boost spontaneity. “Keeping each other guessing increases the production of dopamine, a hormone associated with excitement and anticipation that makes couples feel more sexually attracted to each other,” says Scott Haltzman, M.D., author of The Secrets of Happily Married Women.
- OUTDOOR SEX: winter is in the distant past. Summertime brings a renewal of the Earth. “The beauty of having sex in nature is that it engages all of your senses—the aroma of fresh flowers, the cool breeze on your warm skin, the soft earth under your body,” says Gilda Carle, Ph.D., author of 99 Prescriptions for Fidelity. “These new stimuli make sex more of a mind-body experience.”
- VACATION SEX: it doesn’t need to be long or expensive, but any sort of vacation can create mind-blowing orgasms. “Couples tend to have more explosive sex on vacation, because without the stressors of the daily grind—a major libido killer— they can really focus on their relationship,” says Carle.
