Our TV Commercial

Commercial on YouTubeOur TV Commercial: The ups and downs of cable television

Just about two years ago we embarked on yet another journey to promote our boutique. With all the “sex” on daytime and prime time TV these days, we didn’t expect so much push back in producing a late night TV commercial. After filming an awesome commercial in our boutique, we were told we had to literally blur out almost everything except my face. We do have the rough cut version of that TV commercial on our YouTube channel. It was nice to have our classy boutique shown in a quick 30 seconds, but that was short-lived. By the time the cable company got done with it, there was nothing to see. You see, we did not meet their standards of conduct relative to “sexually explicit” content. My friends who helped film the TV commercial with me were disappointed. I was livid with the entire process. My mom wanted to sue someone. It was quite the ordeal. You must remember, this was going to be broadcasted from midnight to 2am. We just could not understand how this was a problem. In turn, we did not pursue the topic, and focused our efforts on other promotional outlets.

I go into so much detail telling this story about the first TV commercial attempt because it is another example of sexual health, wellness, and pleasure being stigmatized in our culture. There is nothing wrong with sex. In fact, sex should be celebrated and sexuality explored. In a country where we work ourselves to death, shouldn’t pleasure with our partners be a priority? More importantly, isn’t it essential to keep our minds and bodies healthy? Going to the gym is great and all (maybe), but making personal intimate connections with our sexual partners is shown to promote heart health, increase cognitive function, and decrease the risk of depression. Plus, the adage “if you don’t use it, you lose it” is certainly the case with sexual function. Vaginal and penile health is very important to our overall system. It’s such a shame people don’t see a deeper connection between sexual health and wellness, pleasure, and overall good health. We believe the stigma surrounding sex, sexual health and wellness, and intimate communication should be gone!
